A Pair of Staffordshire Figures Punch and Judy - circa 1845

Riding on Goats.

A rare and very attractive pair made by the "Alpha Factory".

Punch and Judy shows were very popular
throughout England in the nineteenth century.
The mobile glove puppet booths are particularly associated
with English seaside resorts and our staffordshire potters
produced many different examples of them.

This charming pair of figures are well modelled,
they have fine faces with their characteristic large noses.
They are beautifully painted with bright enamel colours,
nicely gilded, with love hearts on Judy's skirt
and they have a lovely full glaze.

They are in good condition,
only a very good restoration to the neck of Punch
and some minor flaking of the green on the bonnet of Judy.

Height: 5 inches
