A Staffordshire Figure of a Crimean War Battle Scene - circa 1855

The Crimean War inspired many figures and this very rare
piece is another example of the genius
of our Staffordshire Potters.

This complicated subject is marvellously constructed
in a simple two-piece mould and is a victory for the modeller.
The quality of this figure is fantastic,
no matter how often I look at this figure I always wonder -
such a striking plumbed hat placed on his head
with it's fine neck and face -

Almost certainly a portrait figure,
But who is it ?
And just how has it survived in such good condition?

Condition: No restoration

Date: Circa 1855

Height: 11.5 inches

Provenance:
Oliver Sutton Antiques, High St. Kensington

This is the actual figure; page 144
