A Staffordshire Figure of the Duke of Wellington  - circa 1850

A classic staffordshire figure of a really Great Britain.

Wellington had a celebrated military career,
for a number of years in India,
in the Peninsula War against the French
and his historic victory defeating Napoleon Bonaparte at Waterloo in 1815.

His political career was also immense
and he was Prime Minister from 1828 - 1830.
After resigning he was also notably Foreign Secretary
in 1834 - 1835 under Robert Peel.

From 1842 until his death in 1852
he was commander-in-chief of the British Army.
One of the truly great British heroes.

Superbly modelled, vibrant enamel colours,
a very strong cobalt blue, good gilding
and an excellent glaze.

 It is in excellent condition,
only some minor flaking of the enamels
and with no restoration.

Height: 11.75 inches
