A Pair of Staffordshire Figures of Jenny Lind & Louis Jullien
- circa 1847
Jenny Lind and Louis Antoine Jullien leading lights of the opera scene.
Made by the Alpha Factory
Jenny Lind, a soprano, was a superstar of the 1840's and 50's.
She was known as the "Swedish Nightingale".
At the age of 27 Jenny Lind was already famous throughout Europe,
in 1847 she first visited and performed in England,
and was incredibly popular - our potters made many figures of her.
She retired from the stage in 1849, went on extensive tours
throughout Europe and America in the 1850's
and became a British subject in 1859.
Louis Jullien was a famous French Conductor
and composer of light music.
He came to London in 1840
and was very successful into the 1850's.
Jenny Lind is a lovely example in every way
and has no damage or restoration.
Louis Jullien has a break to the wrist of his right arm,
held in place with an old lead brace.
The title is rubbed but wow what colouring
and with no restoration.
They are available as seperate figures
or as a matched pair.
