A Pair of Staffordshire Greyhounds circa 1845
An unusual pair of Greyhounds,
rather crudely potted yet they are very elegant
with their long, fine snouts.
Nearly all the Staffordshire "Long Dogs" are indeed Greyhounds.
Often referred to as Whippets, no - the king of dogs in Victorian times
was the Greyhound. Coursing was hugely popular and the
Champion dogs were celebreties.
Naive painting with spots like a dalmation,
give this wonderful pair of greyhounds real presence.
They are in good condition.
There is restoration to the near side ear of the left hand dog.
