A Pair St.Bernards Carrying the Royal Children - circa 1848

"Hairs to the Throne"

As described by Clive Mason Pope
in his wonderful book
A - Z of Staffordshire Dogs
"With its long history of rescue work in the Swiss Alps
going back 200 years, this noble breed has special appeal.
Its benevolent expression and docile character
makes it a charming companion dog.
Cheerful and loyal it even submits to the teasing of children
and was certainly a great favourite with Queen Victoria's offspring".

A lovely, colourful  pair,
a true pair that have always been together,
and with good provenance.

They are in very good condition,
with 2 very small chips.
No restoration.

Height: 8.5 inches

Provenance:
Woodstock Antiques
